"Wheat production in India has produced, has increased by several fold. I don't know exactly what the [numbers are]. And without those increases we would have seen repeated famines in India. I think Borlaug has it about right. In his conversations with, kind of, organic purists with the question of artificial fertilizers, chemical fertilizers and organic fertilizers, Borlaug says, "Use every bit of organics that you can lay your hands on." But from any analysis that he's seen, when you get to the end of what's possible with organics you're still going to be short. And if you're going to produce enough food in the food-short areas of the world you're going to have to add chemical fertilizers."
