"I don't think anybody who's a major producer of ag commodities can afford to proceed without making use of the futures market. I'm not saying exactly how aggressive or timid they should be, but it's a tool they need to use
"It does provide a grower of agriculture products the opportunity for some planned marketing, so they don't have to accept only the price that's offered at the time of when they have the product availability. So it allows them to lock in a price that they deem profitable into the future. I mean, they may not have the crop yet. So I think astute people take advantage of the futures market and are able to use it to their advantage. But it's not a It's certainly not a substitute for management and it requires a skill level and knowledge base independent of what it takes to successfully grow the crop."
