"Most of them [Army soldiers from the Fairmont Airbase] lived on base, but the married ones lived in apartments in town. In fact, we rented to one of the servicemen with our house… the whole house."
   Question: "Was there a shortage of housing? Tell me about that."
   "Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah. Well, they just couldn't find any decent place to live, you know. The women – A lot of their wives were with them, especially the officers. And they had no trouble because they could afford to pay it. But the others [soldiers] had trouble finding places to live. They would live in a couple of rooms, or most anywhere they could find a roof."
