"There was lots of comments about the Japanese bombing Pearl Harbor, and what were we going to do, because they had practically destroyed our naval ability. The equipment we had on standby to fight a war was little if anything. It's amazing to me, and it was amazing in those days, how we gathered things together. And our industrial compound just was amazing, how it jumped in there and built airplanes and tanks and everything, you know, ships. It was amazing."
