"The dust would blow in those Dirty Thirties. The dust would blow in from Oklahoma, that red dust. I'll never forget it as long as I live. You know, we lived in an old, old house. The windows, of course, were not all that great. It was horrible. It would get into our windowsills and it was just – Cleaning up, your rag that you was looking at would be red with dust. On the floors and everything else. But it passed, and we lived through it. And I'm here to talk about it."

Mildred Opitz grew up in Seward County, Nebraska. She and her husband Chris were married in 1929 and they had two children. She remembers farming with horses and has experienced all of the major innovations in agriculture that have happened since. And, as she says, she still enjoys dancing more than almost anything else in the world.
