"We could have had electricity a lot sooner, but we wasn't wired or anything, and I didn't own the place. My landlord, he finally decided he would do it. And I tell you, that was a big help. Before that you had to carry a dang old kerosene lantern, you know. You had to light a match to see if it was burning. [Laughs.] Later, then, I had a gas lantern. That put out a better light."
