"Irrigation is expensive, [but] it's, like I say, it's an insurance policy. You know you're going to raise something unless [you get a] hailstorm and you insure against hail and losses that way. So, irrigation was quite a change."

Clyde Ehlers was born in 1924 on his grandfather's farm. Milking cows and harnessing horses were regular chores for him. During his life he's seen electricity and tractors become a normal part of farming. Now he is retired on the farm that his grandfather farmed in 1877.
